Paddle in Paradise- Dragon Boat Festival

| Print This Page |

Join us for the annual Dragon Boat Festival on Octagon Pond. Up to 40 community and corporate teams will hit the pond on Saturday, August 20 for a great day of dragon boat racing. It's fun for the whole family - bouncy castles, games, food vendors, beer area for those 19+, and more. Come down early to cheer for your favorite team. Dragon boating is the fastest growing water sport in North America. These sleek 40-foot racing boats with dragon heads and tails hold 20 paddlers side by side, with a steersperson in back and drummer in front.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team, most-spirited team, and best fundraisers. The festival is organized by an amazing team of dragon boaters - the Avalon Dragons. Over the past ten years, these breast cancer survivors have become a powerful source of hope and inspiration in our community. They promote the positive impact of exercise and living a healthy lifestyle in preventing breast cancer and lymphedema, and support those who are affected across in Newfoundland and Labrador. Team pledges support dragon boating for breast cancer survivors locally, promote it in other parts of the province, and help fund support programs for those undergoing breast cancer treatment. For more information about the festival or to find out how to join the Avalon Dragons, visit their website and follow them on Facebook
