It’s time for our annual Snow and Ice in Paradise winter festival! Beginning February 1, come on out as we celebrate our community with ten full days of winter themed events, activities and entertainment. 

Friday, February 1

Opening Ceremonies featuring the Lions Club Open Mic

Come out and join in the fun as we officially begin Snow and Ice in Paradise 2019. Enjoy an open mic night with local musicians. Mayor Dan Bobbett will bring greetings to mark the official start of the festival.

Parent and Tot Program

Join us for a special Parent-Tot Program as part of Snow & Ice. Along with the program's regular activity, this fun-filled event also has bouncers, glitter face painting, and loot bags from Sky High Amusements. There will also be live music entertainment by Ray Lake.

Saturday, February 2

Youth Indoor Soccer Skills Competition

The Paradise Soccer Club is hosting a Snow & Ice Indoor Soccer Skills Competition. It features various events such as the "Million Dollar" Free Shot, Juggling Competition, Trash Can Alley, Minefield Speed Dribble, and more.

At this event, youth will have a chance to show their talents in one or all events. Everyone is welcome to stop by for the fun. We will have prizes for the winners in each age category, from U6 to U16. Visit pysa.ca for more information.

Family Fun Day: Games and Entertainment

Come out and enjoy a day of family entertainment and games. The entertainment includes live music from Terry Reilly, a reptile show, and show from Wonderbolt. There will also be an opportunity for those in attendance to showcase their talents in a local talent show. Easter Seals Sledge Hockey

Location: Paradise Double Ice Complex

Admission: Free with a non-perishable food item donation to the CBS-Paradise Food Bank

Come enjoy a demonstration of Sledge Hockey, and give it a try with extra sledges available.

An Evening of Food, Comedy and Hypnosis

Enjoy an evening out with a food (buffet style), comedy performances and a hypnosis show. This event is 19+ and there will be a cash bar on site. Here is some information on the great lineup:

Paul Warford

Paul Warford is from 'around the bay' in Newfoundland. He began performing comedy while attending Acadia University in 2002, and joined the Yuk Yuk's roster in 2008. He has performed in most Yuk Yuks clubs in the country, and has toured extensively in the Maritime Provinces. Paul was selected for the Just For Laughs Homegrown Competition in 2010, performing in Toronto and Montreal. He performed at the Screech St. John's Comedy Festival's gala show in 2012. He has been featured on CBC's stand-up comedy radio feature CBCLOL (2016), as well as CBC's Newfoundland Words of the Week (2017). He has performed with many stellar comedians, like Nikki Payne, Mike Wilmot and the late Mike MacDonald. Paul also write a monthly humor column, What Odds, for Downhome Magazine.

Steve Coombs

Since making his stage debut at the 2008 St. John's Comedy Festival, Steve has toured with Yuk Yuk’s and entertained audiences from Newfoundland to Toronto. His comedy has been featured nationally on CBC Television, Radio and XM Satellite Radio. Steve was selected to represent Newfoundland in the 2014 SiriusXM Top Comic Gala at Toronto's prestigious JFL42 Comedy Festival and awarded an opening spot for Russell Peters on the Canadian Leg of his Almost Famous World Tour. Steve most recently debuted his one-man show, Here and Now, under the direction of Charlie Tomlinson to much acclaim at the LSPU Hall.

Gary Summers

Gary Summers is a professional speaker, magician, hypnotist and hypnotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Physiology and certifications in hypnotherapy and cognitive behaviour therapy. He conducts workshops on stress and worklife balance, as well as hypnosis seminars on quiting smoking and weight loss. He is owner of training4success, a company specializing in corporate training and employee evaluations.

Sunday, February 3

Adult Ball Hockey

Get your team together and enter the annual Snow & Ice Ball Hockey Tournament. The tournament is open to adults over the age of 19. For more details and registration information, please contact Bob Pynn (709-743-3778).

Public Skate

Come out and enjoy a skate followed by hot chocolate in the lobby of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Synchronized Skating Performance

This performance includes skaters representing multiple synchronized skating teams from the Mount Pearl Paradise Skating Club as they prepare for their Provincial Championships in March. Bring along your friends and family to cheer on our teams while watching synchronized skating in action.

Winterlude  Triathlon

Get active and have fun with friends during Snow & Ice 2019 at the Winter Fun Triathlon. This triathlon has two options:

  1. two km of snowshoeing, five km of fat biking, and three km cross-country skiing
  2. two km of snowshoeing and three km of cross-country skiing

The Town provides some equipment to participants. Don’t miss your chance to explore the glory of winter in Paradise. Register for the Fun Triathlon here.

Community Worship Night

Holy Innocents Anglican Church, Spruce Hills Community Church, Pathway Community Church, and Holy Family Parish are coming together for a Community Worship Night during Snow & Ice 2019. The worship is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. There is also a freewill offering taken for the CBS / Paradise Food Bank.

Monday, February 4

Seniors' Darts

The Paradise Adventure 50+ Club is hosting a dart game during the festival. Open to residents 50 years or older, Seniors' Darts is always a great afternoon of fun and friendly competition. To join in the fun, please contact Brendan Squire (709-782-3516).

Snowball Ping Pong

Calling all ping pong players! Come on out and join in for the annual Snowball Ping Pong event. Players are placed in divisions based on experience level and age, with prizes being presented at the end of the night. Don't forget your indoor footwear. Registration anytime up to 6:45 p.m. the night of the event. To register early, please email two days prior to the tournament.

50+ Shuffle Board Tournament

Open to regular and new players alike, the 50+ Shuffle Board Tournament is a great way to meet new people while getting in some physical activity. For more information, please contact Brendan Squire (709-782-3570).

Meadow Creek Visit

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 to the residents of Meadow Creek. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Meadow Creek family.

Family Goods and Satellite Bingo

Come on out for our popular bingo night as part of Snow & Ice 2019. Family Goods Bingo and Satellit Bingo is an all-ages family event hosted by the Kin Club of Paradise and 905 Viking Royal Canadian Air Cadets. There are many prizes to be won, generously donated by local businesses and associations. Satellite Bingo is one of the most exciting -- and revolutionary -- aspects of Charitable Gaming in the Atlantic Star Satellite Bingo Network. Its games are distributed by satellite connection across the province, with the busiest nights seeing dozens of halls connected and offering prizes in the tens of thousands of dollars. There will be separate cards for the Satellite Bingo.

Wednesday, February 6

Team NL Dodgeball Tourney

Enter your team for a night of competitive fun. This event will begin with a tourney aimed for children aged 7 -12, following backboard and doctor dodgeball rules.The evening tourney will feature the Team NL champions, in a traditional dodgeball elimination rule set. There will be prizes for both sessions, and the title of “Best Dodgeball Team in Paradise,” is up for grabs!

Time: 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. (ages 7-12) & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (13+)

Admission

  • Ages 7-12: $3 per participant.

  • Ages 13+: $10 per team, with all funds supporting of Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador

Adult Paint Night in the Complex

Adult Paint Night is back again this year. The event includes everything you need to create a one-of-a-kind painting. Throughout the event, you will be guided through a creative process while sipping on a glass of wine, and laughing until your cheeks hurt. You don't have to be an artist to have an amazing time.

Seniors’ Card Game

If you’d like to try a friendly card game, join the Adventure 50+ Club for its weekly seniors’ game. It promises to be a great afternoon of fun during Snow & Ice 2019. To join in, please contact Brendan Squire (709-782-3570).

Karwood Retirement Retreat Visit

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2019 to the residents of Karwood Retirement Retreat. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Karwood Retirement Retreat Visit family.

Annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament

Get ready to ante up for the Annual Texas Hold'em Snow & Ice Poker Tournament. The total prize payout could be up to $500 with prizes awarded to the top four players. There are also door and draw prizes given out throughout the night. This event is first come, first serve, and includes cash bar service.

All-Star Basketball Night

Join us for All-Star Basketball Night on Thursday, February 7! The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with the opening demo and a chance to try wheelchair basketball with contests in skills and shooting. All-Star Night event also includes a 3 point contest and free through challenge, with help from Court Collage Basketball. The 3 on 3 Tourney will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will follow BIG 3 rules, including the elusive 4 point shot.This Tourney is targeted for grade 9+. St. John's Edge representatives will be there to help run the tourney, and there will be various prizes awarded.

Body Quest and Atlantic Pro-Sports Fitness Frenzy Night

Come out for a complimentary fitness class to help inspire a healthier you! Join us for an evening of Fitness Classes showcasing the Town’s robust fitness offerings. Drop by the gymnatorium for prizes and a class of your choice, or if you have lots of energy, join in for all three!

Video Game and Youth Centre Competition Night

Come out and participate in a NHL 19 tourney, and bring any Fortnite supported device to enter our Fortnite Challenge. There will also be various contests using the Youth Centre’s Street Fighter 2 Arcade, Rockwall, Ping-Pong, and Pool table. Pizza will be provided, so come on out and get your game on!

Youth Paradise Minor Hockey Novice Tournament
All games will be played out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
Artistic Course and Certification: Artistic Expression

Creativity awaits! Make Your Mark during 180 minutes (delivered in 9 segments). Be guided through the Elements of Art process to create your own personalized, original identity mark (which you can copyright) and apply to other creations such as: an inspiring/motivational bookmark, 'wish-you-were-here' postcard to the future (that you will never send), private-time willpower door-nob hanger, aspirational 'wish-only-one-wish' graffiti wall poster, a 'found-objects' sculpture. Join in and collaborate with new friend. Certificate of Achievement and snacks included.

Spirit of Newfoundland: The Mamas & The Papas Tribute "Dream A Little Dream of We" 

Sing along to the icons of an era including: The Beatles, Barbara Streisand, Wilson Philips, The Temptations & more at this Spirit of Newfoundland production.

This show explores the 1960's style and musical scene with paisley patterns and marvelous melodies, a full light show, and the Spirit of Newfoundland Band! 

The Mamas & The Papa tribute "Dream A Little Dream of We" is a harmonious, free-loving, groove-inducing Dinner and Show, laced with psychedelic tunes and cool cats creating a sweet 60's Vibe! The stunning cast for this new production includes: Kara Noftle, Dana Parsons, Evan Smith & John Williams.

Sunday, February 10

Winter Sprinter

The annual Paradise Running Club fun run held during the Town of Paradise's Snow and Ice festivities is back and better than ever!This year, not only will there be a 5K run and 2.5K walk, but also a 1K kids run. And for the first time, there will be finisher medals for all participants. There will also be awards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the 5k.

Celebrate at the reception with face painting, a selfie booth, door prizes and lots of snacks. The cost to register is $15 per person or $40 per family of 3 or more (all living at the same address). $10 from every registration fee will go to support the Paradise - CBS Food Bank.

Sliding Night

The Paradise Scouts are hosting a nighttime sliding event as part of the closing activities for Snow & Ice 2019. Join us on the hill in Paradise Park for sliding, prizes, hot chocolate, and roasting fires. All residents are encouraged to wear glow in the dark apparel. Come on out and get a great spot for the Closing Fireworks.

Fireworks

We're closing out Snow & Ice in Paradise 2019 with a fantastic fireworks display! The fireworks will be set-off behind Town Hall and will be visible from sites around Town, including the Paradise Double Ice Complex and McNamara Drive.

Canteen Information

The St. Thomas Guides will operate a canteen at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre for most events during Snow & Ice 2018. All items will be $1 each. Canteen Matters will be open regular hours at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Snow & Ice 2019 Buttons

Snow & Ice 2019 buttons will be available Friday, February 1 at the opening ceremonies. Any remaining buttons left over will be distributed during the festival. These buttons will give you chances to win daily prizes throughout the ten days of activities. Find out if your number was selected here.
