Snow & Ice

The Town would thank all of the community groups, organizers, volunteers, and festival goers who helped make Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 such a success! From our Opening Ceremonies, to the great family activities, and popular recreational events, Snow & Ice was enjoyed by all involved! The Town also thanks all of the sponsors who helped make this year's Snow & Ice festival possible!

Friday, February 9

OPENING CEREMONIES

The Opening Ceremonies for Snow & Ice 2018 start the festival off right with music, dancing, and a great atmosphere. Mayor Dan Bobbett will bring greetings to mark the official start of this year's festival. The Ceremony includes performances from the Paradise Youth Dance Group and the Antle Sisters, followed by a special performance from Paradise's own Craig Young. Craig and his band will bring down the house with their mix of rock, country, Irish and Newfoundland music. Those who attend the ceremony receive a free Snow & Ice button, and are eligible to win prizes. See you there.

PARENT AND TOT PROGRAM

Join us for a special Parent-Tot Program as we open Snow & Ice 2018. Along with the program's regular physical activity, this fun-filled event also has bouncers, glitter face painting, and loot bags from Sky High Amusements. For more information, please contact Julie Milley (709-782-3516).

PRE-TEEN DANCE

Opening night fun includes a Pre-teen Dance for youth ages 7 to 12 years. Canteen service will be available and all proceeds collected go towards Paradise Girl Guides.

Saturday, February 10

OLYMPIC SLIDING DAY *CANCELLED*

Have fun in the snow at our sliding and activity day in Paradise Park. There will be a free wiener roast at the bottom of the hill, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, free hot chocolate provided by Pathway Community Church, prize draws and Olympic-themed games and fun zones! This event
is sponsored by Mary Brown's.

YOUTH ART & MURAL WORKSHOP (DAY ONE)

Youth ages 7 to 18 years are invited to take part in our Youth Art & Mural Workshop. The goal of this workshop is to help teach youth about the different aspects of mural painting. The first day (February 10) features lessons in organizing artistic ideas, colour theory and design, and the second day ( February 11) provides participants with an opportunity to paint a mural in the Paradise Double Ice Complex. This workshop is administered by Jill Moores. Those interested in registering are asked to please email.

ROTARY CLUB VALENTINE'S DINNER & DANCE

Rotary Club of Avalon Northeast is hosting its Annual Valentine's Dinner and Dance during Snow & Ice. Invite your sweetheart and put on your dancing shoes for this event where there will be a three course meal and dance to follow. To purchase tickets, please email.

YOUTH ART & MURAL WORKSHOP (DAY TWO)

Youth ages 7 to 18 years are invited to take part in our Youth Art & Mural Workshop. WINTERLUDE FUN TRIATHLON *CANCELLED*

This triathlon includes two kilometres of snowshoeing, five kilometres of fat biking, and a three kilometre leg of cross country skiing. The Town provides some equipment to participants. STARLITES SYNCHRONIZED SKATING PERFORMANCE

Join us as we watch our Mount Pearl / Paradise Starlites perform their routines. This is sure to be a fun event to watch as the teams gets ready to perform at the Provincial Synchronized Skating Championship in March. Come on out and show your support for local synchronized skating during Snow & Ice 2018.

FREE PUBLIC SKATE

Come together for an afternoon of skating fun with free hot chocolate and giveaways at the Paradise Double Ice Complex. This free public skate is sponsored by Body Quest, Mary Brown's and Young Drivers.

COMMUNITY WORSHIP NIGHT

Holy Innocents Anglican Church, Spruce Hills Community Church, Pathway Community Church, and Holy Family Parish are coming together for a Community Worship Night during Snow & Ice 2018. The worship is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. There is also a freewill offering taken for the CBS / Paradise Food Bank.

SENIORS' DARTS

The Paradise Adventure 50+ Club is hosting a dart game during the festival. Open to residents 50 years or older, Seniors' Darts is always a great afternoon of fun and friendly competition. To join in the fun, please contact Julie Milley (709-782-3516).

SNOWBALL PING PONG

Calling all ping pong players! Come on out and join in for the annual Snowball Ping Pong event. Players are placed in divisions based on experience level and age, with prizes being presented at the end of the night. Don't forget your indoor footwear. Registration is available up to 6:45 p.m. on the night of the event. To register early, please email up to two days prior to the tournament.

50+ SHUFFLE BOARD TOURNAMENT

KARWOOD RETIREMENT RETREAT VISIT

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 to the residents of Karwood Retirement Retreat. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Karwood Retirement Retreat family.

FAMILY GOODS BINGO AND SATELLITE BINGO

Come on out for our popular bingo night as part of Snow & Ice 2018. Family Goods Bingo and Satellit Bingo is an all-ages family event hosted by the Kin Club of Paradise and 905 Viking Royal Canadian Air Cadets. There are many prizes to be won, generously donated by local businesses and associations. 

Satellite Bingo is one of the most exciting -- and revolutionary -- aspects of Charitable Gaming in the Atlantic Star Satellite Bingo Network. Its games are distributed by satellite connection across the province, with the busiest nights seeing dozens of halls connected and offering prizes in the tens of thousands of dollars. There will be separate cards for the Satellite Bingo.

Wednesday, February 14

YOUTH AND ADULT DODGE BALL

Dodge Love this Valentine's Day at the Festival Dodgeball Tournament. This is more than your average game of school yard dodgeball. You and five of your friends will go face to face in a round-robin dodgeball tournament against other teams. This tournament is co-ed, meaning your team must include between one and three team members of the opposite sex. This tournament event has teams of up to ten people. To register, please email.

ADULT PAINT NIGHT IN THE COMPLEX

Adult Paint Night is everything you need to create a one-of-a-kind painting. Throughout the event, you will be guided through creativity while sipping on a glass of wine, and laughing until your cheeks hurt. You don't have to be an artist to have an amazing time. All funds collected go towards guiding groups in Paradise. To register, please email by Sunday, February 11.

SENIORS CARD GAME 

If you'd like to try a friendly card game, join the Adventure 50+ Club for its weekly seniors' game. It promises to be a great afternoon of fun during Snow & Ice 2018. To join in, please contact Julie Milley (709-782-3516).

MEADOW CREEK VISIT

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 to the residents of Meadow Creek Retirement Home. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility on National Flag of Canada Day for an afternoon of music and dance with the Meadow Creek family.

YOUTH MINI SK8 COMPETITION

Come show off your skateboard and scooter skills for a chance to win great prizes. Canadian flags and snacks will be provided, and youth are encouraged to wear red for National Flag of Canada Day.

ANNUAL TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER TOURNAMENT

Get ready to ante up for the Annual Texas Hold'em Snow & Ice Poker Tournament. The total prize payout could be up to $500 with prizes awarded to the top four players. There are also door and draw prizes given out throughout the night. This event is first come, first serve, and includes cash bar service.

SPIRIT OF NEWFOUNDLAND: "NEWFOUNDLAND IDOL... IDOL DIES AT YOU"

As part of Snow & Ice 2018, Spirit of Newfoundland is proud to present, "Newfoundland Idol...Idol Dies at You", staring Dana Parsons, Janet Cull, Keith Power, Andrew Williams and the Spirit of Newfoundland Band. Written by Sheila Williams, Deborah Wells-Smith and Peter Halley, this new original Newfoundland musical comedy looks at the ups and downs of the many music competitions and shows that have featured young aspiring Newfoundland Talent. "Idol Dies at You" pays homage to Canadian and American Idol, The Voice, The X Factor and more.

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 2 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex (cash, debit or credit accepted). There will be a cash bar at the event and table seating is organized by ticket number.

Saturday, February 17

SNOW & ICE 5K FUN RUN

There's nothing like some outdoor exercise on a cool winter day to get your heart pumping. Lace up your sneakers, bundle up, and get ready for a five kilometre run around the Town of Paradise. After the run, join us for refreshments (coffee, tea and some light snacks), and a prize draw. All proceeds raised go to support a charity selected by the Paradise Running Club. Advance registration is available online  at and on the day of the event from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. If you are interested in more information, or if you would like to volunteer for this event, please email This event is hosted by the Paradise Running Club and the Snow & Ice in Paradise Committee.

YOUTH INDOOR SOCCER SKILLS COMPETITION

The Paradise Soccer Club is hosting a Snow & Ice Indoor Soccer Skills Competition. It features various events such as the "Million Dollar" Free Shot, Juggling Competition, Trash Can Alley, Minefield Speed Dribble, and more. At this event, youth will have a chance to show their talents in one or all events. Everyone is welcome to stop by for the fun. PARADISE MINOR HOCKEY NOVICE JAMBOREE
The Paradise Minor Hockey Association, in conjunction with Snow & Ice Committee, is pleased to announce there will be a Novice Jamboree on Saturday, February 17. There are 400 excited players waiting to show the Town of Paradise their hockey skills at Snow & Ice. All games will be played out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
NEWFOUNDLAND KITCHEN PARTY: FEATURING THE CELTIC CONNECTION

Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 presents the Newfoundland Kitchen Party. Get your tickets early and don't miss a swally and scuff with Calver Street, The Bishops and The Celtic Connection. This standing concert for ages 19 and up will have a cash bar with an ATM located on site.

BROWNING HARVEY & CUTTING EDGE WRESTLING: QUEST FOR GOLD

Cutting Edge Wrestling returns with Quest for Gold. Don't miss Legacy vs. Redemption, a huge main event six years in the making. Newfoundland Heritage Champion Buck Gotch defends against Scott Humphries in a no holds barred match. These two were as close as two could be and now they want nothing more than to destroy each other. The status of the North Atlantic Title is also up in the air after Tony King suffered the biggest loss of his career at the end of 2017 and disappeared. No one has seen or heard from him since. Also slated to appear we have Newfoundland Tag Team Champion Psycho Mitch, Hellraiser Justin Lock, Bulldog Brandon Hynes, TJ Taylor, Dirty Don Martini and more. Don't miss out on the action of CEW: wrestling that leaves a mark. Parental guidance and viewer discretion is advised for children under the age of 12 as there can be adult content.

There are 400 excited players waiting to show the Town of Paradise their hockey skills at Snow & Ice. All games will be played out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
ROASTING FIRES AT PARADISE PARK

The Paradise Scouts are hosting a nighttime roasting fires event as part of the closing activities for Snow & Ice 2018. Join us on the hill in Paradise Park for free hot chocolate, rosting fires, and a chance to win some great prizes. All residents are encouraged to wear glow in the dark apparel. Come on out and get a great spot for the Closing Fireworks!

FIREWORKS

We're closing out Snow & Ice in Paradise 2018 with a fantastic fireworks display! The fireworks will be set-off behind Town Hall and will be visible from various sites around Town, including the Paradise Double Ice Complex and McNamara Drive.

Canteen Information

The St. Thomas Guides will operate a canteen at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre for most events during Snow & Ice 2018. All items will be $1 each. Canteen Matters will be open regular hours at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Paradise Minor Hockey Novice Jamboree

The Paradise Minor Hockey Association, in conjunction with Snow & Ice Committee, is pleased to announce there will be a Novice Jamboree on Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18. There are 400 excited players waiting to show the Town of Paradise their hockey skills. All games will be played out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Snow & Ice 2018 Buttons

Snow & Ice 2018 buttons will be available Friday, February 9 at the opening ceremonies. Any remaining buttons left over will be distributed during the festival. These buttons will give you chances to win daily prizes throughout the ten days of activities. Find out if your number was selected here.
