Snow & Ice

From the Opening Ceremonies, to the great youth activities, and popular community skating events, Snow & Ice 2017 was enjoyed by all who came out. The Town would like to thank all of the organizers, partners, volunteers, and festival goers who helped make Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 a success!

Friday, February 10

OPENING CEREMONIES (Special Guests Dana Parsons and Sean Panting)

The Opening Ceremonies provide an excellent atmosphere, complete with great music and company to start Snow & Ice 2017. Mayor Dan Bobbett will bring greetings to mark the official start of this year's festival. Accompanied by local youth, there will be a special performance from Dana Parsons, member of the Paradise Arts Committee. The ceremony will also feature song writer extraordinaire Sean Panting. See you there!

PARENT AND TOT PROGRAM

Join us for a special fun-filled Parent-Tot Program. Along with the programs regular physical activity, there will also be face painting and balloon twisting. For more information, please contact Julie (782-3516).

PRE-TEEN DANCE

Opening night fun for Snow & Ice 2017 includes a Pre-teen Dance for youth ages 7 to
12 years. Canteen service will be available. Proceeds collected from the dance will go
towards the Mount Pearl-Paradise Synchronized Skating Team.

Saturday, February 11

SLIDING DAY (CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER AND CONDITIONS)

Join us for a day of sliding in Paradise Park. There will be a free wiener roast with camp fires at the bottom of the hill, snowshoeing, crosscountry skiing, fun zones, free hot chocolate and prize draws!

ROTARY CLUB VALENTINE'S DINNER & DANCE
The Rotary Club of Avalon Northeast is hosting its Annual Valentine's Dinner and Dance during Snow & Ice 2017. Invite your sweetheart and put on your dancing shoes to join us for a three course meal with a dance to follow.

Sunday, February 12

YOUTH ART & MURAL WORKSHOP

Youth ages 7 to 18 years are invited to take part in the new Youth Art & Mural Workshop. The goal of this workshop is to teach about the different aspects of mural painting. The first day (February 12) will feature instruction on organizing artistic ideas, colour theory and design. The second day (Sunday, February 19) will allow participants an opportunity to paint a mural on the main foyer windows of the Paradise Double Ice Complex. This workshop is organized by the Paradise Art Committee and will be administered by Jill Moores. Those interested in registering are asked to please email.

SENIORS' DARTS

The Paradise Adventure 50+ Club is hosting a dart game. Open to residents 50 years or

TABLE TENNIS

Calling all ping pong players! Come on out and join in for the annual Snow & Ice in Paradise Snowball Ping Pong Spectacular. Players will be placed in divisions based on experience level, and age, with prizes being presented at the end of the night. Registration closes at 6:45 p.m. the night of the event. Players are encouraged to register by email up to two days prior to the tournament. Don't forget your indoor footwear.

50+ SHUFFLE BOARD TOURNAMENT: Rescheduled due to weather

Due to the weather on Tuesday, February 14, this event is postponed and will now take place on Tuesday, February 21. 

Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 includes a 50+ Shuffle Board Tournament. Open to regular and new players alike, this tournament is a great way to meet new people while being physically active. For more information, please contact Julie (782-3516).

FAMILY GOODS BINGO AND SATELLITE BINGO: Rescheduled due to weather

Due to the weather on Tuesday, February 14, this event is postponed and will now take place on Friday, February 17, 2017.

 

Family Goods Bingo is an all-ages family event hosted by the Kin Club of Paradise and 905 Viking Royal Canadian Air Cadets. There will be many prizes to be won, generously donated by local businesses and associations. 

Satellite Bingo is one of the most exciting -- and revolutionary -- aspects of Charitable Gaming in the Atlantic Star Satellite Bingo Network. Its nightly games are distributed by satellite connection across the province, with the busiest nights seeing dozens of halls connected and offering prizes in the tens of thousands of dollars. There will be separate cards for Satellite Bingo.

Wednesday, February 15

MEADOW CREEK VISIT: To be rescheduled due to weather

Due to the weather on Wednesday, February 15, this event is postponed and will be rescheduled, the date will be announced. 

 

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 to the residents of Meadow Creek
Retirement Home. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, will visit
the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Meadow Creek family.

YOUTH CENTRE & SKATE PARK ACTIVITIES: To be rescheduled due to weather

Due to the weather on Wednesday, February 15, this event is postponed and will be rescheduled, the date will be announced.

 

Join us at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre for snacks and activities, including a ping pong and rock wall competitions. The Rona SK8 Park will also be full of competitors on skate boards, roller blades and scooters showing off their best tricks. Canadian flags will be provided, and youth are encouraged to wear red for National Flag of Canada Day. This event will include prize draws and free food.

BASKETBALL SKILLS COMPETITION: To be rescheduled due to weather 

Due to the weather on Wednesday, February 15, this event is postponed and will be rescheduled, the date will be announced.

 

Youth are invited to join us for a Snow & Ice basketball skills competition, complete with lots of great prizes to win. Canadian flags will be provided, and youth are encouraged to wear red for National Flag of Canada Day. Participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in. Please register at the Paradise Double Ice Complex reception desk.

KARWOOD RETIREMENT RETREAT VISIT

We're bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 to the residents of Karwood Retirement Retreat. The Winter Carnival Committee with special guest Ray Lake, will visit the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Karwood Retirement Retreat family.

YOUTH FRONTLINE ACTION EVENT

For the first time as part of Snow & Ice in Paradise, we're hosting a Youth Frontline Action Event. There will be multiple interactive inflatables and activities on site. Youth ages 7 to 18 years are invited to get active at this free fun-packed event.

ANNUAL TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER TOURNAMENT

Get ready to ante up for the 6th Annual Texas Hold'em Snow & Ice Poker Tournament. The total prize payout could be up to $500 with prizes awarded to the top four players. There will also be door and draw prizes given out throughout the night. This event is first come, first serve, and will include cash bar service.

Friday, February 17

SPIRIT OF NEWFOUNDLAND: "WHERE ONCE THEY STOOD"

As part of Snow & Ice 2017, Spirit of Newfoundland will present a moving tribute to Beaumont Hamel and Newfoundland and Labrador's involvement in the First World War. Where Once They Stood promises to move the audience to tears and then laughter, leaving you with a new sense of pride for what Newfoundlanders and Labradorians achieved during Beaumont Hamel and the First World War. This dramatic and comedic look back at the First World War will tell our story.

The production includes historically factual accounts enhanced by music from the era. From
haunting ballads, to songs that will make you stand up and cheer, this show will be sure
to entertain. Tickets go on sale Saturday, February 4 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex (cash, debit or credit accepted). There will be a cash bar at the event. Table seating will be organized by ticket number.

Saturday, February 18

FUN RUN/WALK

The Paradise Running Club is hosting a 5K Snow & Ice Fun Run / Walk. There's nothing like some outdoor exercise on a cool winter day to get your heart pumping. The Run / Walk starts at 9 a.m. and is followed by an awards ceremony with refreshments and a prize draw. All proceeds raised will go to support a charity selected by the Paradise Running Club. PARADISE MINOR HOCKEY NOVICE JAMBOREE

The Paradise Minor Hockey Association is pleased to announce there will be a Novice Jamboree on Saturday, February 18. There are 150 excited players waiting to show the Town of Paradise their hockey skills. All games will be played out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex. YOUTH INDOOR SOCCER SKILLS COMPETITION

The Paradise Youth Soccer Association is hosting a Snow & Ice Indoor Soccer Skills Competition. It features various events ("Million Dollar" Free Shot, Juggling Competition, Trash Can Alley, Minefield Speed Dribble, and more) where youth can showcase their talents in one or all of the events. Everyone is welcome to stop by for the fun! We will have prizes for the winners in each age category from U6 up to U16. Check www.pysa.ca for updates.

CONCERT IN THE COMPLEX: MISS CONDUCT AND THE BLACK SHEEP

Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 presents the Concert in the Complex! Get your tickets early and don't miss a fantastic evening with the Miss Conduct and The Black Sheep. The place will be rocking all night long! This is a standing room only concert for ages 19 and up. There will be a cash bar available with an ATM located in the main foyer of the Complex. begin to close out Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017.

BROWNING HARVEY & CUTTING EDGE WRESTLING: QUEST FOR GOLD
Every title is on the line! Don Martini defends his North Atlantic Championship Title against the winner of the Rocky Horror Rumble Scott Humphries. These two are no

strangers and will take every chance to eliminate each other. Wild Thing, Tony King defends his Newfoundland Heritage Title against Buck Gotch. Tony,with some assistance, defeated the big bruiser last year. Buck is out for revenge while Tony looks to keep his claim as the King of NL Wrestling. Also, Cutting Edge Wrestling tag team champions Jack Carson and TJ Taylor are scheduled to defend their championships. Opponents have yet to be determined, but that will just fuel the fire for the young upstarts to prove they are the best.

SNOW & ICE NIGHTTIME SLIDING: Cancelled for Sunday, February 26

The Nighttime Sliding Event is cancelled for Sunday, February 26 due to the weather. 

 

The Paradise Scouts are hosting a nighttime sliding event as part of the closing activities for Snow & Ice 2017. Join us on the sliding hill in Paradise Park for sliding, prizes, and hot chocolate. All residents are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark apparel. Come on out to get a great spot for the closing Fireworks!

Due to the weather, the fireworks are cancelled for Sunday, February 26, 2017

 

Due to the weather on Sunday, February 19, the Fireworks are postponed and will now take place on Sunday, February 26, 2017.

 

We're closing out Snow & Ice in Paradise 2017 with a fantastic fireworks display. The fireworks will be set-off behind Town Hall and will be visible from various sites around the Town of Paradise, including the Paradise Double Ice Complex and McNamara Drive.
