The Town of Paradise offers a variety of youth programs and activities. It's the place to be! Registration for our 2019 fall classes opens 12 p.m.. on Tuesday, September 3. Registration for Youth Painting (Session 2), and Youth Self-Defense (Session 2) will begin on Monday, October 21 at 12 p.m. . Registration is available online only through the Town’s Recreation Portal. For more information, or if you have any questions on our classes, please email or call (709) 782-6290 .

Fall 2019 Programs

Youth Dance (Seniors) 

If you’re a youth between the ages of 10 and 13 years, join us for Youth Dance. This program will help you build your dance skills while you have fun. Session one is from September 8 to December 1. Registration is online only and remains open until full. Each Session costs $15 per person.

Time: Sunday, 7:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m.

Location: Fitness Studio, Paradise Double Ice Complex

Youth Dance (Juniors) 

If you're a youth between the ages 7-9 years and have an interest in dancing, join us for Youth Dance (Juniors)! This program will help you build your dance skills while you have fun. Session one is from September 8 to December 1. Registration is online only and remains open until full. Each Session costs $15 per person.

Time: Sunday, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Location: Fitness Studio, Paradise Double Ice Complex

Youth Painting Session 2

Come and join artist Jill Moores as she teaches the basics of watercolor with students aged 9-14 year every Wednesday from November 13 to December 4. Students will use quality materials to learn how to paint in watercolor. They will explore the properties of the paint to create artwork which will include landscapes and abstracts. Cost of $25 per person.

Time: Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Location: Rotary Paradise Youth Centre

Youth in the Kitchen

If you are between the ages of 7-13 yeas and are interested in learning to prepare and cook snacks, meals and desserts, join us for Youth in the Kitchen. This program runs from September 9 to November 18. The program registration fee is $20. Limited spaces are available.

Time: Monday, 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre 

Youth Self Defense Session 2 (Juniors; ages 7-9)

Are you interested in learning essential skills such as street safety, anti-bullying, and practical self-defense? Taught by a certified Kenpo Black Belt with experience in Brazilian jujitsu, kickboxing and Taekwondo, this program aims to promote confidence, improve fitness and encourage strength using elementary martial arts skills and practical self-defense techniques. With a curriculum focused on a fun, hands-on approach to martial arts, you will have the opportunity to try these skills in a safe environment, and prove just how much you can do! Cost of $20 per person. Program runs October 29 to December 3.

Time: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Location: Paradise Double Ice Complex

Youth Self Defense Session 2 (Seniors; ages 10-13)

Are you interested in learning essential skills such as street safety, anti-bullying, and practical self-defense? What about the basics of kickboxing and sparing? Taught by a certified Kenpo Black Belt with experience in Brazilian jujitsu, kickboxing and Taekwondo, this program aims to promote confidence, improve fitness and offer an introduction to the sport of kickboxing. Geared towards an intermediate age group, prepare to challenge yourself with fun exciting techniques as well as important self-defense skills just how much you can do! Cost of $20 per person. Program runs October 29 to December 3.

Time: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 

Location: Paradise Double Ice Complex

Sprockids Biking

Sprockids Biking is an 8 week program that teaches mountain bike riding skills. The program uses a multi-tier approach designed to provide participants with the opportunity to experience success regardless of riding skill level. The art of riding is broken down into 55 skills distributed through four graduated levels, with each new skill building on a previous skill. Through the sport of cycling, youth develop a strong sense of self-esteem by discovering and building on potential within themselves. The program runs from September 12 to October 29.

Time: Thursday, 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Location: Paradise Park and surrounding trails

Youth Recreational Basketball

If you're between the ages of 14 and 18 years, join us for an exciting game of basketball every Friday night from 9:00 - 10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Paradise Double Ice Complex. Open Gym

If you're between the ages of 7-18 years and are looking to get some exercise, stop in at the Paradise Double Ice Complex for Open Gym.

Time: Monday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Ches Penney Youth Centre

The Ches Penney Youth Centre is a great place for youth the between of ages 7 and 18 years to hang out with friends, climb the indoor rock wall, or play pool, video games and more. Come check out the newly renovated Youth Centre and the additions to the video games and interactive gaming area. 

Climbing Wall

Did you know that we have a 24 foot indoor rock climbing wall? Indoor rock climbing is a great way to challenge yourself in a safe and controlled environment. The climbing wall is open seven days a week to youth between the ages of 7 and 18 years.

Sk8 Park

The Sk8 Park is open year round, seven days a week, so there's no reason to stop doing what you love! Join us any day and stay warm while you skateboard or ride your scooter.

Skate & Scootfest (Sunday, November 24)

It’s that time of year again - our annual SKATE & SCOOTFEST is back!  Skateboarders and scooter riders are invited to compete for the “2019 Scootfest Champion” title on Sunday, November 24 at the Skate Park at the Rotary Paradise Community Centre.

Skateboarding and Scooting are separate - youth can compete in both, must bring your own scooter and/or skateboard.

Competition times for both scooters and skateboarders are as follows:

  • Ages 7 to 10    2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Ages 11 to 13  3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. 
  • Ages 14 to 18  4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Experienced participates may move up an age group if they choose.

 

Registration begins November 18 at 12 p.m. Scootfest is free for all members or a $2 drop in fee for non-members and can be completed online.

 

Information & Requirements:

  • Helmets MUST be worn by ALL participants.
  • Participants must bring own helmet, scooter and/or skateboard.
  • Participants must display sportsmanship, respect towards other competitors and judges, follow rules and guidelines of Scootfest and Skate Park. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification.
  • Families are welcome and encouraged to come watch and cheer on competitors.

Membership Fees and Rates

The Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre offers a variety of low cost programs and special events for youth between the ages of 7 and 18 years. The Sk8 Park/Ches Penney Youth Centre is $15 a month or $50 a year.

If you're Interested in having access to all youth programs and events taking place this season, why not purchase a pass for $50? For those without a pass, you can still attend special events and programs for a drop in fee of $2.
