Recreation Technician (Fitness Programs) Permanent Full-Time

The Town of Paradise, one of the fastest growing Municipalities in Newfoundland and Labrador, is seeking a Full-Time Recreation Technician. Reporting to the Program Manager, this position of Recreation Technician (Fitness Programs) is primarily responsible for the coordination, development and provision of ongoing recreation and leisure programs for all demographics within the Town of Paradise.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation or equivalency
  • 2-3  years of direct experience in delivering Fitness Programs
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures in Recreation programming
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Customer service skills and ability to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for members of the public
  • Personal Training Certification 

Successful candidates will be required to attain:

  • CPR / First Aid Certificate / AED
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check with a “Vulnerable Sector Query” 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License 

This is a full time, permanent unionized position. The salary for this position is based on an annual salary of $38,840.05 - $48,550.06 as per the Collective Agreement.

The Town of Paradise, one of the fastest growing Municipalities in Newfoundland and Labrador, is seeking a Full-Time Recreation Worker. Recreation Workers provide exceptional service to citizens in the day-to-day support of the Town’s recreation programs and facilities.  

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma supplemented by two years post-secondary study in a recreation-related field 
  • Experience working in community recreational facilities 
  • Ability to work with a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Experience delivering recreation programming to community members including youth and seniors
  • Supervision of recreation areas and ensuring established rules and regulations are appropriately followed
  • Customer service skills and ability to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for members of the public

Successful candidates will be required to attain:

  • First Aid certificate
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check with a “Vulnerable Sector Query” 

These are unionized positions working a varied shift schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. The salary for these positions is based on an annual salary of $36,476.92 - $45,596.15 as per the Collective Agreement.

Recreation Supervisor (Temporary - Maternity Leave Replacement)

The Town of Paradise, one of the fastest growing municipalities in Newfoundland and Labrador with the potential for significant growth in residential and commercial/industrial development, is seeking a Recreation Supervisor in the Recreation and Community Services Department.  

Reporting to the Program Manager of Recreation & Community Services, the Recreation Supervisor will be accountable for organizing, planning and coordinating all recreation activities for the Town. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the scheduling, supervision and performance management of employees, as well as assisting user groups such as community and sports groups with their programs. The Recreation Supervisor is also responsible for the supervision of Reception Operations (Daily deposits, Facility Rentals, Gym memberships, Program registrations) .

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Recreation or related discipline with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in recreation and business/marketing
  • Three (3) years’ supervisory experience is required
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Proven computer skills in MS Office; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of scheduling/booking software
  • Experience in working in a unionized and municipal environment would be an asset

This is a full-time, temporary, non-bargaining unit position with a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.  This is a management position with a varied work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Crossing Guard (Casual)

Responsibilities:

The Town of Paradise is seeking responsible adults who are available to work for two (2) hours a day and are interested in making a difference in their community. Crossing guards play an important role in keeping children safe on their way to and from school by assisting with the crossing of children in a safe and controlled environment. Crossing guards are designated to primary and elementary schools during school arrival and dismissal times specific to each location. 

Qualifications:

  • ensure the safety of children crossing busy street intersections 
  • maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude toward children, their guardians and the general public at all times 
  • report dangerous driving, crossing practices or problems to the appropriate authorities 
  • escort children across the street using caution and displaying a crossing sign 
  • prevent children from crossing the street until it is safe to do so 
  • establish and maintain effective relations with the school children and the general public

Successful candidates must be able to learn and apply traffic regulations, particularly those pertaining to pedestrian crosswalks; communicate clearly and effectively, and work on a daily basis in all weather conditions. The successful candidate must provide an RNC Certificate of Conduct & Vulnerable Sector check upon hire.

Hours of Work

This position works for (1) hour each morning and (1) hour each afternoon. (2 hours per day) Monday – Friday.  Fall 2020 – June 2021, when school is in session.
