The Town of Paradise is constantly and carefully monitoring the situation with COVID-19. Information is provided by provicial and federal departments / agencies. 

COVID-19 is an illness caused by a coronavirus. Human coronaviruses are common and are typically associated with mild illnesses, similar to the common cold.

The Town is committed to the health and safety of our employees while ensuring we continue to provide core services to our residents. All Town Facilities are closed and staff are working remotely to provide business continuity and maintain core services. The main Town phone line 782-1400 and general email, will be answered and appropriate staff will be available to respond to all inquiries. 

The situation on COVID-19 is continually evolving and the Town is constantly reviewing information as it becomes available. The Town is also liaising with neighbouring municipalities and provincial and federal government departments / agencies to ensure coordinated approaches and responses to the COVID-19 situation.

Town Operations

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Paradise is taking measures to support public health advice to proactively help prevent the spread of the virus.

Town operations are focused on providing core services to residents. This is to protect the health and safety of Town employees to enable them to deliver required services.

  • all Town facilities, including the Town Hall, are closed to the public;
  • the Town is maintianing core services of water testing, snow / ice control, municipal enforcement, and garbage collection (as per the regular garbage schedule);
  • recycling collection is suspended;
  • all Town playgrounds and the dog park (in Paradise Park) are closed; trails remain open but users are aked to practice social distancing with other users;
  • all Town recreational programming and rentals are suspended including the After School Program, fitness classes, all birthday party and other such rentals, and all rentals for all users groups.
Property Tax Deferral and Payments

Effective immediately, the Town is offering to defer all residential, commercial and business tax payments until the end of June, with no interest charged until June 30.  

Tax payment deferral is also available for any residents who have already made arrangements for payment of taxes. If you have set-up pre-authorized debit payment or submitted post-dated cheques for payment of taxes and you would like to avail of tax deferral, complete the Tax Payment Deferral Form. (Note: you can complete the form on your computer, save it, and then submit via email). If the form is not submitted, payment plans will continue to be processed as planned. 

If you do not have payment arrangements in place, you do not need to take any further action, the Town will not charge interest on taxes until June 30. 

While the Town Hall is closed at this time, there are several ways you can pay property tax, full details are available on the Property Tax webpage:

  • Online Banking: Payments are accepted through online banking by adding the Town of Paradise as a payee on the bank website and quoting the account number which is found on the front of the municipal tax bill (Ex: ABCDE001). Please note this is not an interest free form of payment.
  • Credit Card (Visa, Master Card and American Express), e-Transfer or PayPal: Payments can be completed online through PaySimply, our secure third-party provider, visit the portal to access the service. (Please note that PaySimply will charge you a convenience fee to cover payment handling and processing charges, this fee is not associated with the Town of Paradise and is paid directly to PaySimply.)
  • eServices: Payments can be received through the Town's website through the eServices portal. Please visit the eServices page and follow the instructions to create an account and make payments.
Snow Clearing Operations

With the snow expected to start Tuesday (March 24) evening, the Town is prepared to provide the essential service of snow clearing. The equipment is ready and crews are available. The Town has adjusted the crew work schedule to ensure that the number of employees on site remains below 10, to support the public health requirement for the maximum number of people allowed to gather. Extra cleaning is also being completed in work areas to ensure the health and safety of all employees. 

Town employees are practicing social distancing and all residents are reminded to do the same. Please do not interact with Town snow clearing crews or Municipal Enforcement Officers, please call 782-1400 or email if you have any questions.  

Inspections and Permits

The Town is providing inspections and permits on case-by-case basis. We must ensure we are keeping our staff health and safe and that we are supporting social distancing practices.

Please email requests to and include address, type of inspection and a daytime telephone number for someone who is responsible for the site. Staff will contact you, review safety protocols and schedule a time for the inspection.

The COVID-19 situation is presenting uncertain times for the business community. The Town's Economic Developer Officer is monitoring the situation and available to lend support. Please contact her if you have questions or need information on available supports for business owners.

Health Information Sources
If you start to have symptoms of COVID-19, please use the self-assessment tool on the HealthLine 811 website to determine if you need to call 811. If you are not able to access the self-assessment tool, please call 811.

Health officials advise that the best way to prevent the spread of COVID 19 is frequent hand-washing with soap and water, refrain from touching your face and shaking hands with others, and covering cover your mouth and nose with your arm when coughing or sneezing.

Social Distancing

Social distancing means limiting your physical contact with other people in order to stop, slow down or contain the spread of COVID-19. Everyone has a part to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19.

Generally, all individuals are advised to avoid crowds and maintain a 2 arm’s length distance from other people.

Activities to avoid:

  • group gatherings (e.g. birthday parties, weddings, funerals, etc.)
  • having visitors in your home
  • sleepovers, playdates and other social interactions with friends
  • public spaces (e.g. malls)
  • crowded stores
Activities to Support Social Distancing

While we are all doing our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19, this situaiton is challenging for all of us.

As long as you are symptom-free, health officails advise it is safe to go public spaces to get essential supplies such as grocerices for,example, however make sure that you are maintaining a 2 arm length distance from other people.

Here are some suggestions from provincial public health officials on activites we can still enjoy at this time:

  • get outdoors (weather permitting): take a walk, ride your bike, snowshoeing; play outside; yard work, and sit on your deck
  • family game night
  • cook, including teaching children how to cook
  • listen to or play music
  • read a book
  • spring cleaing
  • watch your favourite shows or movies
  • video chat (Skype, Facetime)
  • connect with friends on social media
Seniors & Vulnerable Groups

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

  • during the COVID-19 public health emergency, please call 1-833-552-2368 to contact the provincial Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development.

Government of Canada

  • providing a one-time special payment through the Goods and Services Tax (GST) credit by early May. This will double the maximum annual GST credit payment amounts for the 2019-20 benefit year.
  • reducing the required minimum withdrawals from Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs) by 25 per cent for 2020. This will provide flexibility to seniors and help preserve RRIF assets during a volatile market
  • extending the deadline to file your income taxes to June 1 and allowing any new balances due, or installments, to be deferred until after August 31, 2020 without incurring interest or penalties.

Supporting seniors and vulnerable groups-while we cannot visit seniors and vulnerable residnets at this time, there are ways we can offer support time: 

  • phone calls
  • video conferencing (Skype, Facetime)
  • send a card or letter (Canada Post is committed to providing service but there may be delays)
  • window visits - go to the perosn's place of residence and visit through the window. Seeing a loved one in-person, even through a window, can provide comfort. Practice social distancing at all times
  • grocery and essnetial supplies - offer to deliver groceries and essential supplies These should be dropped to the door and practice social distancing at all times.

The COVID-19 is situation is a stressful and uncertain time for all of us. While we must practice social distancing, there are supports available to help you at this time.
