Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Laurie

Elizabeth Laurie was first elected to Council in September 2009 and was re-elected for her third term September 2017. At that time, she was selected by Council to serve as Deputy Mayor. Having lived in Paradise her entire life (currently living on Quilty's Road), she is proud to serve her home community in municipal government. Elizabeth and her husband, Harold Furlong, welcomed their first child, daughter Laurie, in May 2016. This is the first baby to be born to a sitting member of Paradise Town Council.

Elizabeth proudly holds the position of Ambassador to the College of the North Atlantic, where she graduated from the Geomatics Engineering Technology program. She is currently employed with the Engineering Division at the Department of Transportation and Works and has returned to school to further her education to obtain a Bachelor of Technology Degree from Memorial University.

As a long-time volunteer in the Town, Elizabeth recognizes the importance of community spirit and being involved. Throughout the years, she has worked with many organizations and sat on various committees. Currently, Elizabeth is a member of the NL Provincial Council for Girl Guides of Canada. As a Councillor, Elizabeth is chair of the Imagine Paradise Committee, chair of the Beautification Committee, Chair of the Planning Committee. She is also a member of the Communications, and Recreation and Leisure Services Committees and the Peter Barry Duff Commission.
