Municipalities in the St. John’s Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) are working together to undertake a residential survey designed to gather information and perspectives from residents in the Northeast Avalon. The information collected will inform policy, planning and the delivery of services now and into the future. The City of St. John’s and the Towns of Conception Bay South, Paradise, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s and Torbay are participating.
“The information collected from this collaborative survey will help inform municipal leaders regarding trends and will also aid in long-term planning. Up-to-date data is important for our planning and decision making and I encourage all residents who are contacted by the statistics agency to participate.”
- Dennis O’Keefe, Mayor, City of St. John’s
The Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency will administer the survey between February and March 2016.
“We are pleased to partner with our neighbors on a project that continues on our council’s commitment to smart planning and sustainability. It is a great opportunity to work collaboratively on a project that is both regional in scope and focused on the insight of our local residents. If you are contacted we would greatly appreciate your participation.”
- Moses Tucker, Mayor, Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s
The survey will provide data on topics such as demographics, transportation patterns, perceptions on municipal services, and quality of life. Data gathered will be considered in future studies, plans and activities.
“This is an extremely important project to assist with the planning of our community and region. I hope residents get behind the initiative and provide us with the information that we need as municipalities to develop policy and programming.”
- Ralph Tapper, Mayor, Town of Torbay
Although participation is voluntary, co-operation is encouraged to ensure that the information collected is as accurate and as comprehensive as possible. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
“The Town of Conception Bay South is pleased to participate in this regional demographic survey. The data collected will provide specific information that will assist Town staff in making day-to-day decisions, and the identification of regional demographic patterns can help guide longer-term projects. I strongly encourage Conception Bay South residents to participate if their household is selected.”
- Stephen Tessier, Mayor, Town of Conception Bay South
Information collected is protected under the authority of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Statistics Agency Act. Answers will be kept strictly confidential and published in aggregate form; no individuals will be identified in the results. Please see backgrounder attached for further information.
