The Town is continuing its Community Garden for Summer 2025!
Community gardens are a place for residents to plant small gardens, providing them the opportunity to grow nutritious produce. It also provides an area for educational workshops, intergenerational programming and may have opportunity to assist area food banks.
The Paradise Community Garden is located on Lanark Drive (next to the playground) and has 20 raised beds (4’ X 8’) and 4 accessible beds (3’ X 5’). It is a fenced in area with waste bins, a composter, and seating within the area. The individual garden beds will be filled with triple mix soil and fertilizer, and once assigned, it is the responsibility of the resident to maintain. Beds will be assigned as residents register.
Registration opens May 14 at 12:00 p.m., online only, and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Raised beds are $20 a plot for the entire growing season. If you do not have access to a computer and require assistance with registering for a garden bed please call 709.782.6290 when registration opens and /or visit the Paradise Double Ice Complex where staff can assist you. Please note, it will still remain on a first-come, first-serve basis. A raised garden bed is assigned once registration is completed and reviewed.
The Community Garden opens May 23, and successful applicants must have plants in the garden no later than June 7. Gardeners must provide own gardening tools.
It is recommended to tend to the garden beds three times a week. However, depending on the weather, it may require extra attention. Gardeners are only response for their assigned bed within the community garden.
The Town extends thanks to the Carpenters Mill Wright College for the construction of garden beds and to the Government of Canada for providing funding through the New Horizons Program.
