The Town of Paradise works hard to keep streets clear and safe from snow and ice. Snow clearing operations begin when five centimeters of snow has accumulated on the road surface. Road crews work as efficiently as they safely can under a variety of weather conditions to clear seven separate routes within the Town.
Snow clearing in Paradise is done on a priority basis. Please visit the Town's Snow Clearing Road Priority page for an overview of priority levels. There are 291 streets within the Town, 163 of which are either cul-de-sacs or dead end streets. This equates to approximately 300 km of snow clearing / ice control over seven separate routes.
Sidewalk clearing is organized into five different routes, with each being cleared in order of priority. Sidewalks in the immediate vicinity of school areas are cleared first.
Town staff also clear 42,000 square metres of public parking lots; approximately 800 fire hydrants; and 66 km of sidewalk clearing. Residents are reminded not to shovel snow into areas that have been previously cleared by the Town including places where it may obstruct traffic on streets or sidewalks.
During the peak of an ice control event, the main effort is to keep arterial and collector roads from becoming slippery. Read more about the Town's approach to ice control.
During storm events, each route will be completed within a reasonable time period after the storm has ended. Weather permitting, crews will start street widening operations on the day after all streets have been addressed.
Residents are advised that the Winter Parking Ban means that no vehicle is permitted to be parked on Town of Paradise streets any time during a snowfall or for 24 hours thereafter.
