February 13, 2019: The Town of Paradise takes this issue very seriously. We apologize that this matter occurred and we do understand and we share the concerns of residents and user groups about this issue. We want to stress that all Town employees who work directly with youth and vulnerable populations undergo appropriate checks, including Vulnerable Sector Checks. We are committed to taking the steps necessary to ensure the safety and security of those who use Town facilities. At this time, the Town is reviewing all existing agreements to ensure appropriate checks are in place for those external providers who serve youth and vulnerable populations at Town facilities.
February 12, 2019: The Town of Paradise was advised that there was an incident on the evening of Saturday, February 9, 2019 evening where an employee of Canteen Matters was escorted out of the Paradise Double Ice Complex by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC). Canteen Matters did close earlier than its posted hours of operation as a result of the matter.
As the canteen at the Complex is operated by Coffee Matters, not directly operated by the Town of Paradise, and a RNC investigation is ongoing into the matter, the Town is not able to provide any further comment on the matter. The RNC is the primary contact for any questions on this matter.
The Town can advise that Town employees who work directly with youth and vulnerable populations undergo appropriate background checks, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
