The Town of Paradise today announced that the Paradise Double Ice Complex will close effective May 8, 2018 for approximately 12 weeks while repairs are completed to the facility’s roof. The roof was damaged during the severe wind storm in March 2017.
At the time of the damage, temporary repairs were completed to ensure the safety and integrity of the building and to enable the facility to reopen. Since that time, Town staff and consultants have been carefully reviewing the extent of the damage, evaluating the required repairs, and determining the best work plan for repairs.
“Staff and consultants have advised that the most efficient and safest alternative for the Town is to close the Paradise Double Ice Complex while the repair work is underway,” explained Mayor Dan Bobbett. “We reviewed a number of options and worked to select a time which would have the least impact on users of the Complex.”
There are no direct costs to the Town as the repair work is covered by insurance.
The Body Quest Fitness Centre is not impacted by the facility closure and will remain open. The Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre and Paradise Park will remain open for regular operations. Areas of the Complex parking lot may be inaccessible once the work begins and visitors are asked to use caution in the area during the construction.
“We apologize to all users of the Paradise Double Ice Complex. We recognize this is an inconvenience for all the patrons who use the facility, but closing the Complex during the required repair work is the best option for all involved,” said Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Laurie, chair of the Recreation and Leisure Services Committee.
Updates on the operations of the Paradise Double Ice Complex will be provided on the Town website and social media pages.
