Media Release: Town of Paradise Launches Resident Notification System

The Town of Paradise today launched a resident notification system which allows residents to receive updates and information through text message, email, or phone call. 

“We know our residents have been asking for a notification system and we’re excited to launch this new system to keep our residents up to date on Town operations and activities,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. 

“The resident notification system is the first phase of our plans to enhance resident communications. Next year, we will be implementing the second phase which includes a service request platform and new Town app. It is expected to be launched by the summer,” explained Mayor Bobbett. When launched, the new Town app will include a garbage module which will have access to the collection calendar and allow residents to receive reminders for garbage and recycling days.

The Town has selected Voyent Alert as the service provider for the resident notification system. It is a Canadian-based company which specializes in issuing targeted information notifications. Voyent Alert has hundreds of municipal clients across the Country, including many in Atlantic Canada and NL. 

To register for the system, residents can visit www.paradise.ca/alerts and follow the step-by-step process. The free service enables residents to select the topics they want to be notified about and to register for their preferred contact methods. For residents who do not have access to a computer, they can call the Town at 709.781.1400 and staff can assist them with registering for the service. 

“This system allows residents to select how they want to be notified, and that was important to us in selecting a service provider. While many residents have asked for text notifications, we know not all residents want that and with our service they can be notified via email or a phone call. We want to provide to a service that meets the needs of all residents,” explained Mayor Bobbett. 

The resident notification system provides updates on the following categories: 

• General Notices – non-urgent information and general topics; all subscribers are automatically registered in this category
• Closures and Cancellations – facility closures and program / event cancellations due to weather events, statutory holidays, and scheduling change
• Garbage and Recycling Schedule Changes – schedule changes and / or delays to the garbage and recycling collection
• Planning Notices - planning notices issued by the Town, including variance use applications, discretionary use notices, and regulations amendments, etc.
• Public Engagement – upcoming Town public engagement activities seeking resident input
• Recreation Notices – information on fitness classes and recreation programs such as senior, adult, youth, and children’s activities
• Road and Construction Notices - information on road work including lane closures, detours, and traffic interruptions or any changes to Town construction projects 
• Town Events – notices and updates about special events and activities managed and offered by the Town.
• Water Shut-off Notices – notices on planned and unplanned water shut-offs throughout the Town
