The Town of Paradise today (Tuesday, April 29, 2025) announced it was naming a street to honour Paradise resident J.D. Trainor who passed away earlier this year. Mayor Dan Bobbett and Council were joined by J.D.’s family, Premier Dr. Andrew Furey, and MHAs for the announcement.
“J.D.’s name has become known across Newfoundland and Labrador—not just for his skill on the ice, but for the values he represented. He stood for hard work, team spirit, determination, and kindness. Today, we’re proud to recognize that legacy in a lasting way, by naming a street after J.D. in his hometown of Paradise,” said Mayor Bobbett.
J.D. Trainor was 16 years old and passed away in January after a courageous cancer battle. A loving son and brother, a dedicated and passionate team member, and a proud Paradise resident, he was known for his kindness, strength, and unwavering positivity, on and off the ice. J.D. loved hockey and played for several teams both in and out of the province, and was regarded as a talented athlete.
"Sport has the power to bring people together, creating a shared sense of purpose and belonging. The outpouring of love for J.D. and his family from the hockey community speaks volumes. Helmet stickers, tribute games, paintings, and heartfelt messages all show how far J.D. Trainor’s influence reached. J.D. Trainor Street will serve as a reminder - to live with compassion, to face life’s battles with courage, and to love fiercely, just as he did,” said Premier Furey.
J.D. Trainor Street will be located in the Lakeside Subdivision - Phase 7, a Fairview Investment development. The Town extends thanks to Fairview Investments for their support to name a street in their upcoming development in the Adams Pond area of Paradise.
“It is our hope that J.D. Trainor Street will serve not just as a marker, but as a reminder of a life that inspired many, and a community that continues to stand together in both joy and sorrow. And most importantly, we hope J.D.’s memory continues to make a difference inspiring us all to find ways to carry his spirit of hard work, determination, and kindness forward and turn remembrance into action,” concluded Mayor Bobbett.
