The Town of Paradise has reached an agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) which represents its bargaining unit employees.
At the request of the conciliator, the Town and NAPE returned to negotiations on Friday, October 27, 2017. During those discussions a tentative agreement was reached which was presented to the membership Friday afternoon and subsequently accepted.
“We are pleased a negotiated settlement could be reached, one that is fair to our employees and one that can be accommodated within existing budget allocations,” said Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Laurie. “With the help of the conciliator, both the Town and the bargaining unit were able to engage in meaningful and productive discussions.”
Through the conciliated discussions, the contract length was deliberated. With the contract length extended it allowed for additional consideration to the wage package. The new collective agreement is for three and half years, retroactive to January 1, 2017. It includes a 12 percent wage increase, a signing bonus of $200 for each member, and a number of previously agreed to items.
“This agreement will not bring about any changes to the Town’s planned budget projections. Furthermore, Council has committed that the residential mil rate will not change in 2018,” said Deputy Mayor Laurie.
All Town employees are asked to report to the Paradise Double Ice Complex for 9 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017. All Town facilities will open at 12 p.m. on Monday, October 30, and programs and services will resume operations at that time. Further information will be available on the Town’s website at paradise.ca
“We thank the residents of Paradise for their patience during this past week and we look forward to resuming full operations on Monday,” said the Deputy Mayor.
