The Town of Paradise today outlined the scope for Phase IV of the Topsail Road Widening Project. The work is expected to start the first week of September and continue through to December, weather dependent. The project consists of widening Topsail Road from Christopher Street to St. Thomas Line, installing storm sewers, curb, gutter and sidewalk, and replacing the bridge at Christopher Street.
“The widening of Topsail Road is a major, multi-year infrastructure project for the Town of Paradise. We know transportation is a main priority for residents and over the past number of years we have been working hard to make the necessary investments to enhance and improve the road network in our Town,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett.
The Phase IV Topsail Road work includes replacing the bridge at Christopher Street. As such, there may be times when the Octagon Pond Trail is closed due to equipment working in the immediate area of the brook. There may also be times throughout the duration of the project when detours are required. Such instances will be communicated in advance by the Town via its website and social media.
With work occurring in the vicinity of the new Octagon Pond Elementary School, the Town has also worked with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) to develop a busing option for students living near the construction zone on Topsail Road. This busing option will help to minimize traffic congestion.
“We are pleased to work with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District so that busing can be provided to students during construction. While traffic disruptions are unavoidable, this busing option will help to minimize traffic congestion” said Mayor Bobbett. “We are also working with the contractor to minimize the impact of the work on the public.”
