As part of the Willow Banks Development Phase I, a stormwater retention area is being installed for the Adams Pond Trail. The work is being done in the vicinity of the Archibald Drive area of the Trail.
Stormwater retention is a recommended environmental practice which helps protect ponds and water areas. We understand it can be difficult for residents to see the project at this stage of work as it does involve removing trees and vegetation. However, the full project does include placing natural vegetation back in the area and Town staff are monitoring the work to ensure all Town guidelines and requirements are followed.
Addressing stormwater is a requirement for development under the Town’s Engineering Guidelines. Stormwater retention areas help control run-off from going into ponds as well as minimize potential flooding during heavy rainfall. This work directly supports the Town’s focus for environmental stewardship as outlined in Your Paradise – Plan 2022, our strategic plan. The Adams Pond Trail can be accessed and used during this work, and users are asked to follow any posted signage in the area.
