The Town of Paradise’s new Municipal Plan is now in effect. Imagine Paradise is a comprehensive policy document which guides the management of the Town’s growth and development over the next 10 years.
The Town’s Municipal Plan was developed after extensive public consultation and contains a long-term vision for Paradise with a focus on five key components including; healthy, livable neighbourhoods; quality, connected design; economic prosperity; environmental quality; investment in transportation and services; and regional cooperation.
“The Town of Paradise is continuously striving to create and maintain the right balance for residents, visitors, and business owners alike,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. “We believe that a focus on the five priority areas outlined in the new plan will position us to continue growing in a positive direction for the next decade.”
The Municipal Plan brings forward a renewed focus on continuing the evolution towards becoming a prosperous, independent, inclusive, and self-sufficient community in which people of all ages can live and feel welcome. Key highlights from the plan include:
- Provisions for a growth strategy which encourages a variety of housing forms, housing affordability, and connectivity.
- A focus on urban agriculture including the keeping of chickens and other urban agricultural uses on residential properties.
- Inclusion of a Concept Development Plan for the Picco Ridge area to encourage growth in a comprehensive manner.
- A provision for the creation of the Main Street Redevelopment Plan for the portion of Topsail Road between McNamara Drive and the Town’s eastern boundary.
- Policies aimed at the encouragement and support of the arts, culture, and tourism.
- Updated provisions for protection of the environment, coastlines, and trails.
“Imagine Paradise is a fundamental piece of our Town’s future successes and advancements,” said Mayor Bobbett. “We made every effort to engage the public in the entire planning process and we are very pleased with the level of involvement and quality of feedback provided.”
The Town was recognized for the consultation process for Imagine Paradise with a Public Outreach and Communications Award from the Atlantic Planners Institute. The public engagement included a number of components including an Imagine Paradise Advisory Committee led by a wide range of public volunteers, an open house meeting, a focus group, meetings with local developers and business owners, drop-in feedback sessions, an online survey, and children’s contests.
