Town Update: Electricity Conservation Measures - January 24, 2026

In response to the Newfoundland Labrador Hydro Power Warning issued on January 24, the Town of Paradise is implementing the following measures effective immediately to help conserve our electricity use:

• heating will be reduced and lighting levels will be lowered at the Paradise Double Ice Complex; users are asked to dress warmer if visiting the facility over the weekend
• the lights for the sliding hill in Paradise Park will be turned off for the evening
• most Town facilities are regularly closed on weekends, and crews are checking all buildings to ensure lighting is off and heating is lowered

The Town is actively monitoring the situation, and if needed, is prepared to transition facilities to back-up generators. 

Residents and businesses are asked to help conserve power use:

• Turn off non-essential lights
• Reduce use of large appliances such as dishwashers, washers, and dryers
• Turn down thermostats, even a one or two degree reduction can help
• Reduce hot water usage

Further updates will be issued as needed, and residents are encouraged to check the Town website and social media. We thank residents for their cooperation as we work together to conserve our electricity use.
