Why doesn't the Town collect glass? |
It's no secret that glass is fragile and when it breaks it becomes an occupational health and safety issue for the people sorting. Therefore, glass cannot be put out with other recyclables. However, there are several Green Depots in Paradise who will gladly take your glass beverage containers (ie: juice, pop, wine, imported beer, etc) and domestic beer bottles can be returned to a beer retailer for refund and reuse. Glass jars can be reused for storage of different things from food to nuts and bolts, nails and more things. |
Where can I recycle this item? |
If you're wondering if the item in question can be recycled, Rethink Waste Newfoundland and Labrador has a tool to help you. This search engine will help you find a place for your waste. |
When is bulk garbage? |
The Town of Paradise has a seasonal bulk garbage pick-up that starts in the spring. Bulk garbage and metal collection are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call 709-782-3577. Appointments are needed for both types of pick-ups and therefore, metal should not be placed with bulk garbage. Households are permitted one free bulk and metal collection per year. An additional collection of each is also available at a cost of $25 (HST included) per collection. All additional collections will be scheduled into the regular collection calendar. For the most current bulk garbage dates visit out Bulk Garbage page. |
How does curbside recycling work? Is it picked up with my garbage? |
Curbside recycling is collected bi-weekly (every second week) in a separate truck from the garbage. While garbage and recycling trucks look the same, recycling trucks have two compartments in the back allowing for the separation of container recyclables and paper recyclables. |
What if I miss my collection day? |
If you miss your collection day you can place your recyclables the following recyclable collection day. You can also bring them to your local Green Depot. Visit our Garbage and Recycling Guide and Calendar for your next recycling day. |
Should I remove labels from containers? |
No. You can leave labels on bottles, cans and containers. |
How can I prepare recyclables correctly? |
|
Why does cardboard need to be flattened or broken down into 2 x 2 x 1 dimensions? |
The recycling and garbage trucks are dual compartment (split body) and the width of these compartments is 2 feet. |
How do I get a compost bin? |
The Town of Paradise has partnered with MMSB to offer backyard compost bins to residents. You can pick up your bin for $45 (tax included) at the Town Hall, 28 McNamara Drive during regular work hours. With approximately 30% of household waste being organic, composting helps to significantly reduce waste going to landfills. By composting waste, we create a natural environment where decomposer organisms - like bacteria, insects, worms and fungi break down organic waste and convert it into nutrient-rich compost.
