Snow & Ice

It’s time for our annual Snow and Ice in Paradise winter festival! Join us from February 5-9 as we celebrate our community with winter themed events, activities and entertainment. There's something for everyone!

To purchase tickets for the Diva’s Do Show Tune and Comedy Night or to sign up for the Adult Paint Night please visit the Town’s Recreation Portal. See the Special Events tab in the Recreation Portal to select from the list of events. Wednesday, February 5

Blizzard Day

Join us for a special Parent-Tot Program as we open Snow & Ice 2020. This activity will be outside and will include fun activities like, snowman making, snow hut making, and snow sculptures and well as a small sliding zone.  For more information, please contact Pat Silver email.

Karwood Retirement Retreat Visit

We’re bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2020 to the residents of Karwood Retirement Retreat Home. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Karwood Retirement Retreat family.

Fitness Frenzy

Complimentary fitness class to help inspire a healthier you! Join us for an evening of Fitness Classes showcasing the Town’s robust fitness offerings. With prize give-a-ways drop by the gymnasium for a class of your choice, or if you have lots of energy join us for all three - PiYo, POUND, Turbo kick

Youth Splat Master

Youth Splat Master is a fantastic way to show your talents in the world of art. We are asking all youth from ages 7-18 to come out and take on the challenge and make the next big piece of art.  These pieces of art will then be put on display (only if you want though) and will be judged.  There will be prizes for all the winners. Please register by email.

Adult Paint Night in the Complex
Adult Paint Night is everything you need to create a one-of-a-kind painting. Throughout the event, you will be guided through creativity while sipping on a glass of wine, and laughing until your cheeks hurt. You don’t have to be an artist to have an amazing time. 

Deadline to register is February 3, 2020.

Family Goods Bingo and Satellite Bingo

Come on out for our popular bingo night as part of Snow & Ice 2020.  Family Goods Bingo is an all-ages family event hosted by the Kin Club of Paradise and 905 Viking Royal Canadian Air Cadets. There are many prizes to be won, generously donated by local businesses and associations. 

Satellite Bingo is one of the most exciting — and revolutionary — aspects of Charitable Gaming in the Atlantic Star Satellite Bingo Network. Its games are distributed by satellite connection across the province, with the busiest nights seeing dozens of halls connected and offering prizes in the tens of thousands of dollars. There will be separate cards for the Satellite Bingo.

Shuffleboard Tournament

Are you a competitive shuffleboard play? Do you like to have fun? Do you like meeting new people and listen to some live entertainment? The Shuffle board tournament is a daylong event that will bring out your competitive juices but also allows you to play the game you know and love. This is a 50+ event. Meadowcreek Retirement Visit

We’re bringing Snow & Ice in Paradise 2020 to the residents of Meadowcreek Retirement. The Winter Carnival Committee, with special guest Ray Lake, is visiting the facility for an afternoon of music and dance with the Meadowcreek Retirement family.

Snow & Ice Open Mic with Live Band

Enjoy a night of local musicians who will take the stage in the format of open mic, presented by the Lions Club. If you are interested in doing a 15 minute set of songs by yourself and/or have the band back you up please sign up by email. This is a non-alcohol event.

1st Annual Crumble Cookie Bake Off- Brought to you by Young Drivers and Kevin’s No Frills

BAKERS- Are you ready? This year we will be hosting a brand new Competition. The Crumble Cookie Bake off will be a team competition. Your team of three will supply a cookie recipe, ingredients will be on hand and you will have to collect, mix and bake in 30 minutes. There will be judges and each team will be in an age category (ages 7-10, 11-14 and 15-18). There will be a maximum of three teams per category and you will have to register your team along with you recipe so all supplies can be picked out before the competition. Who wants to be the Crumble Cookie Champion?

Community Worship Night

Holy Innocents Anglican Church, Spruce Hills Community Church, Pathway Community Church, and Holy Family Parish are coming together for a Community Worship Night at the Sprucehills Community Church during Snow & Ice 2020. The worship is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. There is also a freewill offering taken for the CBS / Paradise Food Bank.

Annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament

Get ready to ante up for the Annual Texas Hold’em Snow & Ice Poker Tournament. The total prize payout could be up to $500 with prizes awarded to the top four players. There are also draw prizes given out throughout the night. This is a first come, first serve event and includes cash bar service.

Carnival Day

The Paradise Scouts are hosting a nighttime sliding event as part of the Snow & Ice Festival. Join us on the hill in Paradise Park for sliding, hot chocolate and roasting fires. This will be a super hero and Disney theme event with prizes for the best dressed as each person will display their costume by sliding down the hill.

Saturday, February 8

Due to the weather forecas for overnight on Friday, February 7, for the safety of participants, volunteers and staff,  this event is rescheduled for Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

Please note there will no longer be an advanced bib pick up on Friday evening. The pick up will now begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

At this time all activities will be going ahead as planned and at the same time of day they were originally scheduled.

 

Our Winter Sprinter Fun Run/Walk is back again this year with a 5K run, a 2.5K walk and also a 1K kids run. There will be finisher medals for all participants as well as awards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the 5K.At the reception, a hot pancake breakfast will be served to all participants and volunteers. There will also be face painting, a selfie booth and door prizes. Cost to register is $15 per person or $40 per family of three or more, all living at the same address. $10 from every registration fee ($30 from family fees) will go to support the Paradise/CBS Food Bank.There is a cap of 250 registrations available. Outdoor Family Fun Day at Peter Barry Duff Park

Due to the weather, we're moving the fun indoors. Join us at the Ches Penney Youth Centre (Paradise Double Ice Complex) for games, colouring stations, rock wall competition, a pool tournament and more. We'll also have free chocolate to help you warm up on this windy day.

Come on out to Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park where you and your family have a chance to cross country ski, snow shoe and other activies. There will be a snow sculpture event, a game of snow ball (soft ball in the snow), help make the largest picture of Olaf from Frozen on the little league baseball field and other activities like sliding, and roasting fires. Dress warm and if you dress up like a Frozen charter you will have a chance to win prizes.

Youth Indoor Soccer Skills Competition
The Paradise Soccer Club is hosting a Snow & Ice Indoor Soccer Skills Competition. It features various events such as the "Million Dollar" Free Shot, Juggling Competition, Trash Can Alley, Minefield Speed Dribble, and more. At this event, youth will have a chance to show their talents in one or all events. Everyone is welcome to stop by for the fun. TADA Events presents Comedy Night with John Sheehan: Sponsored by Domino’s Pizza

Enjoy an evening beginning with a buffet style finger foods followed by a comedy show. Our headliner, Newfoundland's own John Sheehan, has performed multiple times at the Halifax Comedy Festival as well as in festivals in Winnipeg, Moncton and St. John's. He has appeared on CBC Radio's "The Debaters" and is featured in a number of television and radio programs throughout the country. Most recently, John has been touring Canadian military bases throughout Europe and the Middle East, performing for military personnel serving abroad.  John admits that he got lost in Marseille, left behind on the HMCS Charlottetown because he had been celebrating too heartily with the troops, and thanks to his last three visits to the Ukraine, is responsible for there being more protocols in place for visiting entertainers.

Sunday, February 9

*CANCELLED* Outdoor Skating and Pond Hockey at Neil’s Pond

Unfortunately, with current weather conditions, there is not enough ice on the pond for this event. Safety first! The Town does apologize for the inconvenience, and we invite you to enjoy the other Snow and Ice in Paradise events!

 

Come on out to Neil’s pond from 9am to 12 noon to take in some skating and pond hockey on the pond. There will be food trucks along with hot chocolate stations. All participants must wear a CSA approved helmet and sign a waiver form. If you are under the age of 18 a parent or guardian will have to sign the waiver for you. This event wil be a lot of fun and there will be areas of the ice split up for just skating and another for pond hockey.

Ages: all ages welcome

Indoor Family Fun Day: Games, Fun Entertainment and Local Talent Show

Come out and enjoy a day of entertainment and carnival theme events. The entertainment includes live music from Terry Reilly, Alley Oop, Sonya Abbott, Paradise Dance Club and Wonderbolt Circus. There will also be an opportunity for locals to showcase their talents in a talent show. If you are interested in showing Paradise your hidden talent please contact email. We will take a maximum of 10 people and there will be prizes for first, second and third. Synchronized Figure Skating Show

This performance will include skaters from multiple synchronized skating teams from the Mount Pearl Paradise Skating Club as they prepare for our Provincial Championships in March. This is a free event. Bring along all your friends and family to cheer on the teams and see synchronized skating in action!

Video Game and Youth Centre Competition Night

Come out and partake in a NHL 19 tourney, and bring any Fortnite supported device to enter our Fortnite Challenge. There will also be various contests using the Youth Centre’s Street Fighter 2 Arcade, Rockwall, Ping-Pong, and Pool. Pizza will be ordered, so come on out and get your game on!

We’re closing out Snow & Ice in Paradise 2020 with a fantastic fireworks display! The fireworks will be set-off behind Town Hall and will be visible from various sites around Town, including the Paradise Double Ice Complex and McNamara Drive.

Canteen Information

The St. Thomas Guides will operate a canteen at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre for most events during Snow & Ice 2020.  All items will be $1 each.

Canteen Matters will be open regular hours at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Snow & Ice 2020 Buttons

Snow & Ice 2020 buttons will be available Monday, February 3 at the reception desk. They are free, on a first come, first serve. These buttons will give you chances to win prises throughout the week.  It will be one button for each person. Name will be written down for each number along with phone number so everyone can pick up their own prizes.
