Mayor Patrick Martin

Patrick and wife Christine are from a small community on the Burin Peninsula called Fortune. 25 years ago, they decided Paradise would be a lovely community to raise a family, and it is here they welcomed their 5 children.
With a house full of active children Patrick has many connections within the community. He spent over 10 years as a Leader with Scouts Canada, 5 years as Chair of the MPI school council and 3 years as a coach with minor hockey.
As a parent to children with Autism, Patrick is a vocal advocate for the Autism community. While it was operating, Patrick enjoyed participating in the motorcycle Ride for Autism. Autistic individuals have spent years being “taught” how to act neurotypical. Patrick would love to see a switch to neurotypicals being taught how to interact with our neurodivergent families, to spread acceptance and equity for all.
Another passion of Patrick’s is his annual participation in the Dragon Boat Races, supporting Breast Cancer survivors. Patrick has rowed alongside the Warriors for 12 years, excluding when operations were paused for covid. And with his wife’s recent breast cancer diagnosis, he is prouder and more determined than ever, to play any part, no matter how small, in the celebration and fundraiser.
Patrick was first elected to council in 2013, and after holding this seat for 12 years, was elected as Mayor in September of 2025. During his 4 terms Patrick has sat on the Planning and Protective Services Committee, the Northeast Avalon Joint Council, and the Youth Advisory Committee. Up until taking the mayor seat, Patrick was Council Lead for Recreation and Community Services. He also served as Chair of the Public Works Committee and a member of the Infrastructure and Engineering Committee and the Administration and Corporate Services committee.
Patrick takes great pride in having sat on the Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park Commission, Visions Employment and being chair of the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Advisory Committee.
Quote: I have always believed the best ideas come from the residents themselves. That is why I do my best to be available to our residents and have the hard discussions. I don’t have all the answers, but together we can make our community stronger.
