Summer Student Positions support the Town's summer camp, tri-sport, soccer, and baseball programs. If you are a motivated, enthusiastic, energetic individual who would like the challenge of working in a recreation environment, apply for one of the exciting and challenging Summer Student positions. Available positions include (full descriptions are outlined below):

Day Camp Supervisors

We are looking for highly motivated and well-organized individuals with strong leadership skills to supervise the Town’s three Day Camp programs - Caboodle, Wahoo and Excursion. The Day Camp Supervisor helps to enhance the programs with challenging, fun ideas to meet the needs of the children. Responsibilities include supervision and scheduling of staff, arranging all outings, organizing theme days and arranging inventory of supplies.  

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate 
  • High Five®  Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence with access to a vehicle
  • Two years of leadership experience
  • Two years experience working in a summer program 
  • Two years post-secondary education in a field related to children / youth issues, special needs, or development  (for example: recreation, physical education, education, early childhood education, social work, nursing)
  • Experience / training in planning and coordinating programming for children / youth in a group setting
  • Experience in training, supervision, and evaluation of staff, program planning, and experience wtih instructing various sports activities, crafts and low organized games

Period of Employment: May - August 2019

Rate of Pay: $12.50/hour; 40 hours/week; flex time will be required

Day Camp Counsellors

We are looking for energetic individuals who enjoy working with children who are between the ages of six to 2 years. Day Camp Counsellors are responsible for implementing activities as outlined by supervisors and head counsellors, enhancing program content with new ideas, and cleaning of work areas. Candidates should have a strong sense of safety awareness, good oral communication abilities and customer service skills.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Experience working in a summer program
  • Post-secondary education in a field related to children / youth issues, special needs, or development would be an asset (for example: recreation, physical education, education, early childhood education, social work, nursing)
  • Experience in planning and implementing programming for children in a group setting and ability to instruct various sports activities, crafts and low organized games

Period of Employment: June - August 2019

Rate of Pay: $11.50/hour; 40 hours/week; flex time will be required

Inclusion Supervisor

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested in working with small groups of children who require extra attention. Duties include: working as a team member with day camp supervisors and counsellors by providing a level of 3:1 care for children with special needs to foster and develop an inclusive environment. The supervisor will also be available as a resource for other inclusion staff members. This position requires a background in planning programs for an inclusive setting.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Experience working in a summer program
  • Post-secondary education in a field related to children / youth issues, special needs, or development would be an asset (for example: recreation, physical education, education, early childhood education, social work, nursing)
  • Experience working with children in an inclusive setting

Tri-Sport Supervisor

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested in coordinating, planning and operating the Town's Tri-Sport Program at Lombardy Place Playground. 

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five®  Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence with access to a vehicle
  • Two years of experience in developing and implementing seasonal lesson plans, including developing learning progressions for skill development
  • One year post-secondary education / training in a field related to children / youth (for example: education, recreation, social sciences, or similar field)
  • Experience instructing tennis to both children and adults would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills
  • NCCP Level II certification (theory and technical) would be an asset
  • Tennis Canada Instructor Level I would be an asset

Rate of Pay: $12.50/hour; 35 hours/week; flex time will be required

Tri-Sport Instructors

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested to teach tennis, basketball and hockey for the Town's Tri-Sport Program at Lombardy Place Playground.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Minimum of Level I NCCP (theory and technical)
  • Experience developing and implementing lesson plans including progressions for skill development
  • Experience instructing tennis to both children and adults would be an asset
  • Experience working in customer service setting would be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Tennis Canada Instructor Level I would be an asset.
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence

Soccer Coordinator

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested to assist with the coordination, planning and operation of the Summer Soccer Program offered by the Town of Paradise in conjunction with the Paradise Soccer Club. This includes supervision of field coordinators, teaching soccer skills to youth, and coordination of tournaments and special events. 

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence with access to a vehicle
  • Two years of experience in developing and implementing seasonal lesson plans, including developing learning progressions for skill development would be an asset
  • Experience instructing soccer to youth ages 4 to 18 years of age would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills
  • Community Coach Youth Certificate would be an asset
  • Successful completion of a Class III Referee Course is a requirement

Soccer Instructors

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested to assist with the daily operation of the Summer Soccer Program offered by the Paradise Soccer Club on behalf of the Town of Paradise by teaching soccer skills to youth, supervising fields, and assisting with the running of tournaments and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five®  Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be providedif needed)
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • Experience in developing and implementing lesson plans including progressions for skill development would be an asset
  • Experience instructing soccer to youth ages 4 to 18 years of age would be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Community Coach Youth Certificate would be an asset
  • Successful completion of a Class III Referee Course is a requirement

Baseball Coordinator

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested to assist with the coordination, planning and operation of the Summer Baseball Program offered by the Town of Paradise in conjunction with Paradise Minor Baseball. This includes scheduling and supervision of field coordinators, teaching baseball skills to youth, umpiring, responsibility for safety procedures, preparation of staff payroll hours, and coordination of tournaments and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Level I Umpiring Certification (minimum)
  • High Five®  Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence with access to a vehicle
  • Two years of experience in developing and implementing seasonal lesson plans, including developing learning progressions for skill development
  • Experience instructing baseball to both children and adults would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills
  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program or high school

Baseball Instructors

We are looking for energetic individuals who are interested to assist with the daily operation of the Summer Baseball Program offered by the Town of Paradise in conjunction with Paradise Minor Baseball.   • Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence would be an asset
  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program or high school

Special Events Assistant

We are looking for an energetic individual to assist with Town special events. Working under the supervision of the Recreation Technician-Special Events, responsibilities include:  purchasing supplies, inventory of cheques, completing research, working special events and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid (within the last six months) Certificate of Conduct / Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • High Five®  Principles of Healthy Child Development (training will be provided if needed)
  • Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a customer service setting would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence with access to a vehicle
